Life before
Nieyehruebee (Bee) wasn’t necessarily seeking out personal and professional advancement, but when sat waiting for her next Universal Credit meeting at her local Job Centre to be over, she had the opportunity to meet with Trash Gxng; promising to be a creative and fully-immersive employability programme leveraging the power of streetwear design - she jumped at the opportunity to join their IYCP programme. Before joining, Nieyehruebee shared that she struggled with self-doubt and a limited social circle - she shared that she hoped this programme would enable her “to be able to speak to people more and not to feel isolated”. Unfortunately, a lack of confidence made social engagement and effective expression quite challenging.

the journey
Participation in the IYCP program proved impactful for Nieyehruebee. She embraced each activity in the programme from presenting to a room full of peers for the first time, to the daunting task of recording a selfie video sharing her biggest strengths. Amongst the myriad of skills gained, Nieyehruebee identified “self-confidence, public speaking, hope and understanding” as the most valuable skills. Through the program's guidance, she refined her ability to articulate her creative ideas convincingly, by creating a compelling elevator pitch which expressed her hope for the future, and gave a meaningful insight into herself and her aspirations.
Real impact
Since completing the program, Nieyehruebee's life has undergone a real transformation she shared with us, “I have so much confidence in myself thanks to this programme”. This newfound confidence has unlocked doors to fresh opportunities, both personally and professionally, leading to more fulfilment.
Before joining Nieyehruebee had hoped this programme would enable her “to be able to speak to people more and not to feel isolated”. It’s safe to say Bee has absolutely achieved this goal, as she shared “from my own experience I can’t describe how grateful I am…[the] programme is so beneficial and I have learnt so much about myself…and I couldn’t be more grateful because that is exactly what I needed”. The best part? Nieyehruebee has returned as a Trash Gxng Ambassador, meaning she now works alongside our marketing team creating content and has returned to the IYCP programme by supporting a new cohort of young people as an Assistant Facilitator; giving constructive feedback on their final presentations, encouragement on how to handle nerves and their mental health and sharing her experience as a previous attendee and the winning finalist for the design competition.
Nieyehruebee's journey with the IYCP program serves as a testament to the transformative power of personal development. She said “Words can’t explain” the impact of this program. She successfully landed a fashion retail role at Abercrombie & Fitch and is also pursuing starting her own fashion business as a result of completing this programme. “From my own experience I can’t describe how grateful I am…[the] programme is so beneficial and I have learnt so much about myself…and I couldn’t be more grateful because that is exactly what I needed”.
