Life before
Before completing our programme, Loay was a recent school leaver who chose not to pursue university, and found himself stuck not knowing what to do. Each day felt the same—there was nothing to do, no structure, and no one pushing him towards a goal—Loay struggled to find purpose, unsure of what he even wanted to do. However, things began to shift when he was introduced to a different kind of lifestyle. His first conversation with Trash Gxng became a turning point; unlike others who were simply selling job roles, Tayo spoke with ambition and a bigger vision. Through that connection, Loay discovered new possibilities, and for the first time in a long while, doors began to open.

the journey
Following his interaction with Trash Gxng, Loay completed our core IYCP programme in early 2024, proving to be a pivotal experience in his life. Over the course of several months, he engaged in group sessions and creative activities that allowed him to explore and develop a range of skills—particularly around communication, leadership, and teamwork.
He shared that developing a routine, even outside of traditional work, felt like an investment in himself, giving him a clearer sense of direction. Previously anxious and stressed about the idea that he couldn’t build a career without a degree, Loay now feels more relaxed, understanding that experience is just as valuable.
Our programme taught him the value of proactively seeking opportunities, utilising all networking opportunities, and stepping into a role of leadership, where he realised that being a leader isn’t about control—it’s about support.
Real impact
Since completing the programme, Loay has embraced a more structured and intentional approach to his personal and professional development. Within just the space of one year, he has taken part in 3–4 courses, worked two jobs, and completed work placements - all of which have helped build his confidence and shape his outlook on the future.
His recent roles include football coaching, a hospitality job in Epsom, and an internship with Brixton BID, where he supported local businesses with marketing and social media. He has now secured a 6-month internship focused on content creation—enabling him to develop his editing and filming skills. His story is a strong reminder of how building resilience and developing core social-emotional skills can lead to lasting confidence and momentum. He was able to embrace challenges and grow through them—something he may not have done without our programme helping him understand his strengths and developing the resilience to navigate setbacks.
